IAN BELL will open the innings in quarterfinals against Sri Lanka as England dramatically shuffles their batting order in a bid for World Cup glory.

News is that James Anderson will be recalled for the quarter-final with Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Warwickshire batsman Bell, who has been batting at No 4, will become Andrew Strauss' third opening partner in the tournament. Kevin Pietersen is already backed to home after an injury and struggling Matt Prior.

Ashes hero Anderson, dropped will return at the expense of 6ft 8in Chris Tremlett. He was dropped off for the must-win final group match against West Indies last week

Strauss said: "By not playing in the last game, Jimmy's had nine or 10 days away from cricket. He certainly bowled well in the nets the other day."
